Pick up and depart to Ayutthaya or the Ancient City as it is also known. This once glorious capital city, situated 80 km from Bangkok was destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767 and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. A large number of palaces, temples and chedis are still standing. In 1782 Bangkok became the capital of Thailand. The principal sights include the gigantic bronze statues of Wat Mongkol Borpith, also Wat Phra Srisanpetch and Wat Yai Chai Mongkol.
Visit the scenic Wat Yai Chi Mongkhon and Wat Lokayasutha. Wat Phra Si Samphet is the main temple complex left over from Ayuthaya’s golden age. We visit the ancient palace and Vihan Mongkol Bopit one of the largest bronze buddhas in Thailand.
At 12.30 enjoy a tasty Thai lunch (included), after which you will visit the resplendant Wat Phra Mahathat, one of the largest ancient Buddhist monasteries. This monastary is located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is one of Ayutthaya’s most beautiful temples and a major tourist attraction.
Returning from Ayutthaya at approx 14.30, you will vist Bang Pa-In, the former royal summer retreat of the 17th century kings of Ayutthaya. This present-day royal palace dates from the reign of King Chulalongkorn (1868-1910). Most of the buildings standing today were constructed between1872-1889.
